Here is a list that 16 & 17 year olds in my Social Studies class in Kamloops, B.C. came up with for reasons why they think that 16 year olds should have the right to vote.
- Teens should get the right to vote so that they are more interested in politics earlier in life. I know that if I could vote I would be more interested.
- Teenagers should get the right to vote because political information is fresh in our minds from learning at school and we know many details of how it works.
- Since a large group of people don’t vote, teenagers would replace that group and raise the percentage of votes cast.
- Teens could come in with new ideas, like a fresh start to help push politicians forward.
- Teens at the ages of 16-17 deserve the rights to vote because it would create a bigger voter turn out if applied to the generation properly, in turn creating a more representative government choice from the population.
- Teenagers should have the right to vote because it makes them a part of society in a mature way and past the stereotypes.
- As tax-payers, teenagers should have the right to vote on political elections. We pay taxes.
